Gender Lens Investing: A Charity Case or a Right?
The changes we see around us
Over the last few decades, there has been significant progress, with more women in leadership positions and girls advancing in stereotypically male-dominated sectors such as technology, infrastructure, business, private equity, and so on. We have seen a shift toward more inclusive policies and regulatory frameworks to promote gender equality. However, in a society where male dominance is the sine qua non, most of the inclusive headlines we see as unprecedented are, in fact, precedented by women who have long before changed the narrative about women's economic importance. There is still work to be done to achieve gender parity.
What are women doing better to bridge the gap?
Change is a challenging path. Women are becoming more assertive and breaking down glass ceilings with glass slippers. They are igniting conversations and developing the relevant acumen to succeed. They are becoming more risk aware and diligent with their participation. These changes have influenced how women and men address existing inequities. We are recording significant investments in women's entrepreneurial ideas and capacity building. We are seeing businesses and organisations incorporating gender diversity because, through their lens, women are rife with potential that requires investments.

Many individuals, professionals, and investors are still entirely new to gender lens investing. Although the analysis of the economic importance of women has been conducted for at least two decades, and the term gender lens investing has been in use for more than a decade, overarching interest in the sector has only recently gained traction.
Gender lens investing can be defined in several ways, each with its theories and explanations. For this introductory analysis, Gender Lens Investing (GLI) is the desire to impact the lives of women and girls.
